It’s Beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

We did some decorating. But it was 71 degrees and clear today. Christmas in paradise.

Cabin Life – December 2, 2010

We had a quiet Thanksgiving with no visitors. Tim and Ed, did bring Ed’s parents Ed and Eileen up for Saturday night on their way home from visiting Kai and Tara in Pasadena. We finished work on the steps to the deck.

Cabin Life – November 23, 2010

This weekend we had a wet one. Another 2.3″ inches of rain. Good for the land, but hard to work in. On Saturday night we went into town for our friend Roz’s annual Thanksgiving dinner the weekend before Thanksgiving. It was pouring and we were worried the road would be bad getting home, but it wasn’t. We got the grout on the tile up at the Guesthouse.

On Tuesday we put in two posts that will make a retaining wall to hold a pad for a step onto the deck. The power pole replacement continues. On Tuesday hike with Ginger we saw that the bases for the posts near our road are going in.

Cabin Life – November 14, 2010

This weekend, no Visitors, so we thought we’d like to go have dinner, a movie, and spend the night up at the Guesthouse. On Sunday we wanted to grout the new baseboard tiles, but we didn’t have our small grout applicator (it’s at Tim and Ed’s), so we put in some of the last deck boards and the deck post covers.

Cabin Life – November 06, 2010

Today is Don and Marilyn’s last day for fall visit to Cielogrande. We had a lot of fun the past two weeks. And for the last few days the weather has been really good and making it hard to go back to the cold in the Midwest. Yesterday we had lunch in Julian and checked out the town. Then, for dinner we headed down to Borrego Springs to the Italian restaurant at the airport. They are really working on putting in the new power poles. A helicopter has been doing a lot of the lifting work and Marilyn has had fun taking pictures of it in action. Check out her Facebook page for some of her good work. There is also the base of one of the poles down by our road in, so we can see what they will look like.

Last Monday Dennis had the great idea of having Thanksgiving Dinner early. We are very thankful for all the love and support we get from our Family and Friends and shared a simplified, but still great turkey dinner with Don and Marilyn. Then we made a couple of leftover turkey dinners during the week. Open faced sandwiches and then a turkey soup. Dennis and Bob think they will have Prime Rib come Thanksgiving, but we’ll see.

Lunch in Julian

Marilyn, Don and Bob go to Julian for lunch at Hot Dog Stand in town. The girls from the Post Office told Dennis it was good. And it was. Also, work continues on putting the new poles in for power line. They have dug the holes for the new poles in front of our place. A helicopter keeps flying by carrying stuff.

Cabin Life – October 19, 2010

We’re in the middle of an unusual rainy week.  We had over 1″ of rain today and it’s still coming.  It’s supposed to clear up and be nice before Don and Marilyn get here this weekend.  Bob worked a show last weekend, but Dennis did get some sanding done on the bench.  We also used a temporary cover for the tractor and 4 wheel for the winter.  Yesterday, Bob got the new led lights in for the bottle wall.  He found out that the switch may have a short in it that caused the old lights to burn out.  Tomorrow he’ll get a new switch, timer and outlet for them.

Cabin Life – October 11, 2010

Our Posts are a little out of order, but here are some pictures of the weekend.  Bob’s Mom and Jim came on Thursday to spend the weekend.  We have a project of making a bench rail for the Guesthouse deck.  On Saturday, Shadow Mountain and Hawk Watch wineries had their 2nd Grape Stomp and Harvest Festival.  Mom entered the Grape Stomp and came in Third.  Bob worked for Alex and Pam as the Bartender.  Sunday we worked on getting he bench rail done.
