Cabin Life – Happy Halloween

Friday night Bob met Dennis in Borrego after he worked to check out Night Fall, a star gazing party for amateur astronomers. We got there early and walked to Red Ocotillo Restaurant with Ginger. They have a pet menu there, so we took Ginger out to dinner. When we walked back there were lots of stars and they were setting up the telescopes. These were serious telescopes. One was big enough that you needed a ladder to look into it. Everyone was so busy setting them up they didn’t seem to want other people to look into them, and we were afraid of doing something wrong with them, so we left early.

Saturday night David, Erik, and their dogs, Bosco, Blu, and Butters came for the night. We had good stars and saw Andromeda and the moons of Jupiter through the binoculars. Bosco is getting old so it’s hard for him to travel, and we were glad he made it out.

Sunday, Dennis planted some native agave by the Guesthouse and Bob finished painting the outside of the shower wall. Then, we went down to Ed and Linda’s to have dinner. What a beautiful sunset from their back porch overlooking Pauma Valley.

San Diego Reader | ” Warner Springs Ranch Finally to Be Sold to Pala” by dbauder

“After a long legal struggle and political infighting, it now appears all but certain that Warner Springs Ranch — featuring hot springs, horse stables and golf course — will be purchased by the Pala Band of Mission Indians, who occupied the area for generations and were booted out by the U.S. government more than 100 years ago…”

“Cookie Monster” Offers Best Explanation Yet for Occupy Wall Street – San Francisco News – The Snitch

Yes, there always going to be rich and poor. But we used to live in country where rich owned factory and make 30 times what factory worker make. Now we live in country where rich make money by lying about value of derivative bonds and make 3000 times what factory worker would make if factories hadn’t all moved to China…

Drive through Kettle Corn in Santa Ysabel

A couple has opened up a drive through Kettle Corn shop in the old gas station at the intersection in Santa Ysabel. Bob bought some on his way to work on Friday to support this mom and pop shop and said they might have good luck with the weekend traffic to Julian for Apple Days. Typical for the back country, the guy said they usually work high school sports events on the weekend so they might not have time to man the shop. That seemed crazy to Bob with all the people driving out from San Diego on the weekend. But when Bob drove in to work on Saturday there was no one at the shop around 11 am.

“Hair” and Occupy San Diego

Bob’s working the show “Hair” this weekend which bring him back memories of the 1960’s. The show is good, but a little more colorful and designed than he remembers the 60’s. Also, without the draft there is a little less urgency to the story than before. A bonus for the show is that Occupy San Diego is camped out in front of theater. Sadly most days it seems like homeless people and kids that don’t appear too smart. One of the stagehands told Bob that on one of the first days of the protest they had a march with many different kinds of people that was quite impressive. Sometimes change starts slow. How the Government spends money is a problem. Hopefully momentum will grow and make for a difference.
