Road Work

Heavy drizzle today. No work on the road. There is a tractor down by the highway, but we arn’t sure it’s for Nicki.

Cleaning the kitchen floor, and then a sealer. Getting ready to install the cabinets which arrive on Wednesday. It will be a good weekend project with Louise and Jim.

Saturday Hike at Warner Springs

It’s been awhile since Bob hiked the Warner Springs trail with Ginger. The creek is really flowing good after the rain and snow of last weekend. It is 70 degrees today and partly cloudy. We checked out the new Museum at Warner Springs. It’s only open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 pm until 4 pm. We also drove over to see the construction on the old Warner Ranch Adobe.

On Thursday of last week, Dennis tried to work on the road, and he did make it better to drive on. But when he tried to fill in the ditches for the pipes he got the tractor stuck. It was easy to get out. Hopefully next week Nicki and John will have the road finished, but we are not counting on it.

Warner Springs Historical Museum Open House

Julian Journal
• Tue, Mar 01, 2011

The Butterfield Stage Stop restoration is under way.

On Saturday, March 19 the newly-formed Warner Springs Historical Society will hold an Open House to dedicate its temporary museum, located at the Warner Community Resource Center, 30950 Highway 79. The public is welcome and refreshments will be served from 3 to 7 p.m.
Historian Phil Brigandi will speak at 4 p.m. about the southern immigrant trail, and Mark Sauer, president of Sauer Construction, will speak at 5 p.m. about the historical preservation of the Warner/Carrillo Adobe and Butterfield Stage Stop.
This endangered historical monument is on land owned by the Vista Irrigation Water District on S-2 (San Felipe Road) and is being restored under a California Cultural and Historical Endowment grant. Mark Sauer Construction along with Is Architecture is doing the historic preservation, which is currently under way. It is hoped that a museum can be constructed on the site of the Warner Carrillo Adobe where docents will be able to conduct tours of the reconstructed stage stop and provide information to the public.
The museum contains artifacts, books, articles, photographs and other items formerly housed at the privately-owned Warner Springs Ranch, which is in escrow to the Pala Band of Indians. This is the first time the public has had a chance to view these and use the museum as a resource library.
The goal of the Historical Society is to expand the current collection to include artifacts and provide information on the history of this significant area of the North County, from Native American Indian times to present day.
The Historical Society thanks the Warner Resource Center and Warner School for sharing their facilities and helping to sponsor the open house.

New R.E.M. album next week.

Memories of days gone.

Quirky Video:

The artist and director Sam Taylor-Wood directed this kinetic video for mid-temp, slightly melancholic rocker “ÜBerlin,” an old-school standout from R.E.M.’s solid 15th album Collapse Into Now. It stars her fiance (and her Nowhere Boy star) Aaron Johnson, who blends parkour, modern dance, and intense R.E.M. fandom during a walk down the street.

Cabin Life – February 27, 2011

Cold storm this weekend. First we had almost 2″ of rain Saturday, then that night it turned to snow. On Friday, Bob got a Burn Permit from the fire department. He did the first burn of the Season on Saturday. Sunday, after a walk with Ginger in the snow, we burned the rest of what we had cut, and then did some more brush cutting.

Sunday night we decided to get some propane, and it was crazy in Santa Ysabel with all the people from the city coming to see the snow. They were crossing the barbed wire fence and building snowmen in the pastures with less than an inch of snow. A steady line of cars was leaving Julian all the way to Ramona.

Quite a bit of snow at the post office this morning. It was trying to snow at the house when I left, but still just a rainy mix.

Linda Update

Ed just called and Linda is through surgery and doing great. They already have a machine working her new knee and they are trying to get her to eat some Mexican food.
