Rick and Jay get a house in Descanso

Our old neighbor (Second Chance) and friend Rick Washburn is moving back to San Diego and he and Jay got a house in Descanso about 34 miles from us. It will nice to have them closer than Arizona. The place looks nice. Follow this link to Zillow listing.

Cabin Life – April 24, 2012

Over the weekend we took a hike to see if the Fuerst Brothers were up to anything and while we were hiking down Mary Ann’s road we solved the rock pile mystery. Mary Anne must have hired someone to get rock to put along her road to help with erosion. Not sure Vista would appreciate it, but at least it’s going to a good cause.

Sunday we got the garden weeded and ready to plant and also did the fix for the pellet stove. Then we went down to Pauma Valley to have dinner with Ed and Linda.

Road Trip Rest Stop

Don, Brenda came Thursday night to take a break from the Road Trip Southwest Bike Ride. Yesterday, Buck and Cheryl met up with them here and spent the night. They got laundry done and refreshed. Today they took off on a local ride, something Don’s wanted to do for a long time.

Road mystery of the rock piles

Saturday we noticed a pile of rocks on the main dirt road from the highway. On our Sunday hike Bob wanted to knock them down so they weren’t so obvious. As we walked up the road we found at least 5 more piles and in one spot there were 5 or 6 plastic crates to carry them. Some of the piles were close to the road and some pretty far off.

Mystery Continues: On Monday, Bob and Ginger hiked the side trail and when they got to the power line road, there, pretty far off the road, but closer to the trail was a pile of rocks with plastic crates. Then, another pile as you came up to the old oak tree. The crates were gone from the place we had seen them Sunday.

The rocks are nice, so it’s not clear why someone is dumping them. If they just stay there we may get them for landscaping.

Cabin Life – April 15, 2012

After a soggy week, over 2″ for the week, Sunday was a spectacular day. Bob’s been doing on-stage rehearsals for the next Opera, but both he and Dennis had Sunday off. Nice walk with Ginger in the morning. We got our last small pile of brush burnt. Then we installed the old gas stove at the Guesthouse and put the siding on the outside of the shower. On Saturday, Ron (26hiking.com) came and picked up a package from Dennis. Dennis took a picture of him and got to talk with him. He seemed like a nice guy and it’s nice to be able to read his blog or follow him on Facebook and see what it is like to hike the PCT. If he makes it all the way to Canada it will take him 26 weeks. Week one is done.

Hiker 26

Hiking26.com stopped into the post office to pick up a final package and to mail back dress #1. He back tracked this morning to eagle rock for some photos. He was heading
on this afternoon, after a stop at the Waner Springs Community Center for a hot meal. We will be tracking his progress, Good Luck Ron…

Cabin Life – April 8, 2012

Easter we put in the new stove. We needed to cut the counter by the sink about an inch to make it fit better. It made a dusty mess. On our morning hike we ventured to the poppy field by Barrett road (next road up from us toward Warner Springs). We cleaned the old stove for the Guesthouse, then we relaxed with a cordial that Bob’s sister Karen made for us. Delicious! Happy Easter.

Hiking26.com – Twisted last 26 hrs… :-

Dennis got an unusual hiking package today. It’s hiker season on the Pacific Crest Trail and hikers send boxes to themselves for supplies at different Post Offices on the trail. This box had the website hiking26.com on the box, so Dennis checked it out. It’s an artist, planning to hike the trail in 26 weeks, 2600 miles in 26 WEDDING DRESSES! We are going to follow him and see how he does. He’s just starting now and hasn’t made it to Warner Springs yet.

Twisted last 26 hrs… :-.
