Eagle Fire Map Sunday, July 24: 7 am

Latest map of the fire. It’s growing bigger, over 10,000 acres, but it is heading to the desert where there will be less to burn. Still now word on how it started. It did start by a structure on the Blackwater training camp on the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation. Dennis says local residents aren’t too happy about having that “training” facility in the area.

Cabin Life – July 23, 2011 Fighting Eagle Fire

Here are some pictures of the last night of Don and Brenda’s visit. We had dinner up at the Guesthouse and broke in the Guesthouse firepit with a ceremonial marshmallow roasting. Jumbo marshmallows, of course.

Saturday morning Ginger and Bob took Warner Springs hike to see what was going on with Eagle Fire. At Mataguay Creek the Fire Departments had set up a Staging Area for work crews and helicopters. There were many firetrucks and support vehicles on the road. It seemed for every car on the road there were at least 5 firetrucks. It was a good feeling to see that many people here. Luckily for now the fire is burning in uninhabited terrain heading toward the desert where it most likely will burn out.

Fire Update Saturday Morning

The fire is growing, but still moving East so no danger now to Warner Springs or the Cabin. It started on the Eagle Rock Training Center, a facility on the Reservation owned by Xe (formally Blackwater). Who knows what they are doing there? Hopefully, if some war game activity started the fire they will have to pay!

Fire is moving East

So far the fire seems to be moving away from us. Dennis says there was talk that 400 firefighters were on it. I saw a helicopter picking up water from Lake Henshaw today. I couldn’t see any plume of smoke, but it was hazy and brown looking North to where the fire is. Latest fire map:

LOS COYOTES INDIAN RESERVATION: Crews battle 400 acre fire

“LOS COYOTES INDIAN RESERVATION —- A 400-acre fire burning on east of Warner Springs was about 10 percent contained Friday morning, according to fire authorities…”

This is a different fire from the one we saw yesterday before Butch and Brenda left. That one was in Anza. Los Coyotes is the Indian Reservation around Warner Springs.

Cabin Life – Dennis’ 50th

We had a good day. Dennis got off work before lunch. We all took naps. The ice machine in the garage fridge broke (a new one is on order). We put in the french drain up at the Guesthouse. Then, we made a delicious Steak dinner. Cake after lunch, and cake after dinner. That’s the life!

Lady Gaga on Howard Stern

Nice interview with Lady Gaga and a nice story of how “The Edge of Glory” was written about her Grandfather and Grandmother after her Grandfather died.
