Milky Way

Got home late from the first night of working “Wicked” and saw the Milky Way for the first time this year over the Guesthoue. No moon, and the stars were brilliant. Never gets old.

Happy Birthday Louise!

Linda brought a nice bouquet of Roses from her garden in Pauma Valley for Louise’s 75th.

Family Reunion Birthday Celebration Weekend for Louise

This weekend we celebrated a big birthday for Bob’s Mom with Louise and Jim coming down on Tuesday for a week stay.  The rest of his family arrived Friday and Saturday.  We had a catered dinner at Shadow Mountain Vineyard on Friday night, with Ed and Linda and Tim and Ed joining us.  Pam and Alex outdid themselves with a very nice meal.  We got a cake at Flour Power in La Mesa for a finish.  The Menu:

APPETIZERS Assorted Domestic & Imported Cheeses w/ Crackers Roasted Red Pepper Bruschetta Beer Steamed Shrimp w/ Tomato – Cilantro Relish

ENTREES Fresh Atlantic Salmon off the Grill w / @ Tropical Salsa BBQ Lime Citrus Chicken.  Field Green Salad Country Potato Salad Baskets of Gourmet Bread

WINE for Appetizers and Entrees to be Selected

Saturday we continued by making a Spanish themed dinner (Bob’s mom is half Spanish).  We started with a homemade Sangria (Pam’s recipe from Shadow Mountain), then made Saffron Rice with Vegetables and Paella (Chicken, Shrimp, and Spanish Chorizo) kabobs, with sauteed spinach with pine nuts and raisins.  Then a second cake from Flour Power.  We asked a lot of the family to play tourist in Julian while Louise, Dennis, Bob and Karen did the prep.  The “real” men watched Golf.  We had rented a house in Julian for Kathi’s family, so they were close to the action.  After dinner Saturday night the wind died down and we sat under a dark sky and looked for stars and satellites.  Donovan shared his google app that told what things were when you pointed his phone at them and Dennis used the new green laser to point out some pretty faint satellites so everyone could see them.  No more cheating!

Sunday morning we made Ina Garten’s baked lemon blintz with blueberry sauce and fruit, yogurt and granola.  A good Father’s Day brunch.

The only trauma for the weekend was when Lola, Kathi’s dog ran Pele up the power pole by the big rocks.  She went all the way to the phone line (almost 40 feet up).  We had to leave for the Winery and hoped she could get down.  She did, but was missing when we got back.  She came back around midnight, but stayed away from Lola for the rest of the weekend.  Lola spend the weekend with us since the house in Julian didn’t take dogs.  She was well behaved.

Getting some work done

Sunday we had the whole day off together. We got the facia trim on the Guesthouse up and put some of the roof flashing up that we’ve been wanting to do for a year. We also got the new handheld shower installed at the Guesthouse.
