More Hamakua Coast Highlights

Some more sights from our day yesterday.  It was cloudy and warm all day and the rain didn’t start until after we left Akaka falls.  We stopped at Big Island Coffee near the falls and had two small Island grown Hot Chocolates for the drive home.

This is are attempt at a selfie. Bob was trying to get out of the picture and I was trying keep him in. It was probably funny to watch from a distance.

Pippy and Zippy take on the Colorado Trail

The other day in the Spa looking over the Pacific Ocean and Hilo in the distance, we found out that our host Keala and her daughter Syd did a fantastic Mother Daughter hike for over a month on the Colorado Trail.  Sid wanted this as her reward for graduating college.

Read their blog of a wonderful experience here.

Good Morning Hilo!

I could get used to this…. Woke up to find out Hawaii doesn’t participate in daylight savings time. Yayy !!! It would have made it already dark for our 5 to 6pm jacuzzi happy hour time. 🙂

Kilauea Volcano

Everyone wonders if we have seen lava flowing, but except on tv you can’t get close to it.  We decided to go to the Volcano National Park and check out Kilauea.  We worried that it was a Saturday and would be crowded, but had the place t o ourselves.  Later in the week we may take a helicopter ride to see where the lava is flowing now from Puʻu ʻŌʻō into the town of Pāhoa.  All of this is on the other side of Hilo away from where we are staying.
