Here are a few more pictures of our lunch yesterday at the lodge.

Helicopter to See the Eruption

Current eruption since 1983.
Current eruption since 1983.

There is no way to see the current eruption of Kilauea from Puʻu ʻŌʻō without taking a helicopter.  We booked a ride with the company Safari and were pleased with the ride.  It was mostly over the current activity and away from bothering people on the ground.  We also saw a stream with waterfalls flowing from Mauna Kea into Hilo.

Lilikoi Margarita

Had lunch at Kilauea Lodge, and a lilikoi margarita for desert before our helicopter tour of the lava flows.

Puna Loop Tour – Part Two

After the dip at Ahalanui we drove a bit to arrive at Uncle Roberts. It was already very popular.  Wednesday nights are a farmers market/food festival/music venue and it was very nice.  The last time we were here we had a beer at Uncle Roberts, but no one was there except the local dogs.

This time the dogs looked happy with lots of scraps of food falling and the place was packed and very fun.  We even saw our host Keala enjoying time with her friends.  It was nice to do something more Local.

We were luck to have the Kalapana ‘Awa Band play some Hawaiian music that was “for real”.

Before we went home we drove to Kilauea to see the glow from the caldera.  Pictures don’t really capture the view.  There was a bright moon so besides the glow you could see the vista of the caldera clearly.  Magical.
