Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau

Yesterday we visited the west side of the island south of Kona to see the historical site Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau.  It is a National Park preserving two aspects of Hawaiian culture.  The Royal Grounds and the Puʻuhonua, a place of refuge for those people breaking the spiritual laws of the time.  Nearby was a place to snorkel and also a place to have a picnic lunch we brought overlooking the ocean.  Then we took a short hike on the 1871 trail which Mark Twain talked about in his “Letters from Hawaii”

Dennis Swimming at the White Bridge

On Sunday we walked the scenic drive again and wore our swimsuits so we could swim at the “white bridge” before What’s Shaking for a snack.  We saw people swimming here earlier in the week.  Water was cold, but Dennis took the plunge.  Bob got his feet wet.
